Emil Frey Racing reveals driver line-up for 2022 Endurance Cup bid with Lamborghini

Emil Frey Racing has confirmed that it will run a trio of cars in this season's Endurance Cup, spearheading Lamborghini's overall assault on the long-distance series.

The Swiss squad will field two Pro crews this term alongside a Silver Cup entry, the latter of which enters 2022 as defending class champion. Consistency is once again a theme among the drivers, with five returnees among the eight announced for the upcoming campaign.

As Lamborghini's lead representative, the team's Pro cars will compete as #19 and #63, a nod to the year in which Ferruccio Lamborghini founded the iconic brand. The Silver Cup car also maintains tradition, running the #14 that Emil Frey Racing has used since its second Endurance Cup season in 2014.

In the #63 machine, Albert Costa remains the bedrock of the team's Pro driver line-up. The Spanish ace joined Emil Frey Racing in 2016 and was part of the crew that secured the team's only overall Endurance Cup win to date at Circuit Paul Ricard in 2018. He is joined by Jack Aitken, who also returns to the Swiss squad having joined for his GT racing debut in 2021.

The #63 crew is completed by Lamborghini factory star Mirko Bortolotti. The Italian ace moves to the Emil Frey Racing camp following a season with FFF Racing that saw the team score a record three overall pole positions in the Endurance Cup and victory at the Nürburgring. Rated among the most skilled GT drivers in the sport, Bortolotti won the Endurance Cup and GT World Challenge Europe titles for Lamborghini in 2017.

The sister #19 machine also features a strong crew. Factory ace Giacomo Altoè will be joined by Arthur Rougier, whose impressive 2021 season saw the French driver added to Lamborghini's junior programme. Both are returnees to the team, while Léo Roussel joins the programme after spending 2021 with Audi squad Saintéloc Racing.

The #14 machine has two of its three drivers confirmed and is set to compete in the Silver Cup class. Konsta Lappalainen is yet another returning driver having partnered Aitken in 2021, showing strong pace towards the conclusion of the season. The newcomer is Stuart White, who produced several impressive performances last term as part of the CMR Bentley squad. A third driver is set to be added to the crew in time for the season-opener at Imola on 1-3 April.

"We thank Lamborghini and our partners for the trust they have placed in us and start the new season highly motivated," commented team boss Lorenz Frey-Hilti. "This year's driver squad is made up of long-time Emil Frey Racing drivers, Lamborghini factory drivers and newcomers. I am pleased that we can once again count on a strong driver line-up for all three cars. I am convinced that we have a strong team and that we have set the course for a successful season."

Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini Head of Motorsport, added: "We are really excited and motivated to support Emil Frey Racing for the upcoming season. Emil Frey Racing is an experienced and successful team and I’m confident that, thanks to the support of the Lamborghini Factory Drivers and the GT3 Junior Drivers, they will be able to fight for the top positions."

After kicking off at Imola, the 2022 Endurance Cup campaign moves to Circuit Paul Ricard (3-5 June), the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa (28-31 July), Hockenheim (2-4 September) and Barcelona (30 September-2 October). Before the racing gets underway, official testing will take place next week at Circuit Paul Ricard (7-8 March).
